All Personal Injury Claims in this Country must now be submitted to the Injuries Board.
This Board provides an independent assessment of Personal Injury Claims for compensation following road traffic, workplace, or public liability accidents. However, it will only get involved when the person responsible for causing the accident is not disputing liability and consents to the Injuries Board assessing your compensation claim.
Claims are assessed using the medical evidence you provide from your Doctor and if necessary, a Report provided by an independent Doctor appointed by the Injuries Board. The assessment of the damages due is made having regard to the particular injuries you sustained and your circumstances.
The time limit for compensation claims is two years from the date of the accident. It is also important that you notify the person you hold responsible for your injury within two months of the accident. Failure to give this notification may not affect your application to the Board but it may affect your case later if you have to go to Court.

When the Board has made its assessment you have twenty-eight days to decide whether you accept or reject the award. If you accept it, you must acknowledge this in writing to the Injuries Board. If you don’t reply within twenty-eight days, it is deemed that you have rejected the assessment.
The person who caused the accident has twenty-one days to accept or reject the assessment. If both parties accept the assessment, the Board will issue an Order to Pay to the respondent. If either you or the person who caused the accident rejects the assessment, the Board will issue an Authorization allowing you to take your claim to the Courts.
